Baatu Parenting App
The main goal of the Baatu Parenting App was to create a safe space for kids to use apps, to allow parents to oversee device activity, and to prevent access to unsuitable content. It empowers parents to manage their child's interactions and device usage, ensuring a secure environment.
Results
Successful monitoring for enhanced parenting as compared to without the app.

background
Children often happen upon content that isn’t meant for them while interacting with devices
Despite best efforts, parents aren’t able to fully control what their children see on the internet. The Baatu app was designed as a solution for parents to control their child’s activity when interacting with Baatu’s proprietary device.
Additionally, the already existing app was outdated in terms of both design and usability.
problem statement
How can parents optimally control what their child interacts with, while giving them updated designs and user flows?
Parents often feel uneasy when their child interacts with a device, as chances of the child happening upon something that isn’t age appropriate is always within the realm of possibility.
user research
Parents are constantly worried that their children will find content that isn’t age appropriate
Research revealed that the average age kids get cell phones is 10 years old. It has also been reported that 25% of kids under the age of six have phones and half of them spend up to 21 hours a week on them.
Parents are worried about where their kids are, how much time they spend in front of screens and the digital content they engage with.
Key Insights
The set up process is tedious and results in drop-offs. Agronomists, farm owners and laboureres need an easier way of communicating, as well as streamlining the processes of a regular work day for the employees of the farm.
Tracking content
Parents are able to safeguard their children from harmful content that could effect their children’s mental health, by way of AI & ML integration.
Geolocation
Parents can rest easy knowing where their children are by getting alerts when they go out of the set radius.
Alerts
Parents can alerts every time there is an exchange of inappropriate language in conversations their children are having.
user persona
The target audience comprises parents of young children who require supervision over their digital content and online interactions

Brand & visual guidelines
Baatu had their branding in place and wanted it to be highlighted subtly.
Colour palette
A light neutral palette was used in order to achieve the neomorphism effect while keeping the brand colours and feel in mind.

final designs
An app that gives parents peace of mind by way of knowing what their child is up to and if they’re safe
geolocation
Parents can geofencing radii for locations that their children visit
screen time
Parents can schedule the amount of time that their children can spend on their devices
sleep time
Parents can schedule power on and off times for their children’s devices
usability testing
Testing resulted in satisfactory usage of features designed for the parents to keep tabs on their children
Parents were able to be at ease knowing that their children wouldn’t come across harmful content, as well as knowing where they are when they’re out.
learnings
Reflection
Designing for enhanced parenting
It was tricky to keep appearances neutral while handling approachable messaging, along with simplifying flows for otherwise complex external device set up procedures. Since the app targeted parents, simplicity in task flows was enhanced to achieve seamless user experience. There is a lot I still have to learn about using the right language to be inclusive of everyone's identity.
Designing with the neomorphism style
I learned a lot about effective design practices for working with glass morphism elements. Using appropriate effects and colour palettes to achieve a visually appealing interface was the main challenge, after which the style was adopted throughout the app, along with texts, styles, and components.
